Awful experience. They told us where we could and couldn't go After we signed the contract. one of the main places we wanted to go was a no go. Obviously this is based on conditions, so therefore, any place they say yes too they should understand the conditions of the roads. The road the Garden of the Gods was littered with mud/water holes. They Stressed not getting stuck, so we drove quickly through those things. We had zero idea how deep they were and/or how thick the mud was. Some of them were a bit hairy getting through. This of course muddy up the outside of the car. The charged us $78 to clean the Outside of the car. It should have just been an upfront charge bc there was no way that the car could go to these spots and not come back filthy. But NOTHING is upfront about this company.
Rented a jeep, jeep was new and nice. They were friendly and great beginning to end. Had a blast running all over the island. Worth the money.
Expensive car (jeep) rental for 5 - 7 hours. Roads are rough and map not very accurate. They charge you for so many things if you make a mistake such as breakdowns and towing, one is almost scared to explore some areas like shipwrecked beach due to loose sand. Therefore did not see promised turtles in ocean and hirogliphics. Staff very friendly despite issues found.
In spite of some of the negative reviews here, I had a very positive experience with Dollar Lanai. Jeep was new, clean, and impressive over both the trails to Shipwreck Beach and Garden of the Gods/Polihua Beach. We got a little sand and soil inside the vehicle, as much as could be expected with a 2-day rental, and we were not charged a cleaning fee. Just follow the rules in the rental contract (which I found straightforward) and you won't have any problems.
